About

Based in London, I write about classical music and particularly about the classical guitar. I was News Editor for the British monthly magazine Classical Guitar for 25 years, which became Classical Guitar magazine, a quarterly magazine published in the USA, in 2015; I wrote for the US Classical Guitar as a contributing editor until it ceased publication in 2019.

I have been contributing to the wonderful monthly classical guitar magazine Gendai Guitar in Japan since 1990, initially with a ‘Letter from London‘ as well as interviews and articles, and more recently I completed writing a series of 48 monthly articles on the Early Life of Julian Bream. My new series is called Women, Music and the Guitar and started in the April 2025 issue of Gendai Guitar with the work of Kassia, a ninth-century Byzantine-Greek composer, hymnographer and poet.

I have been writing a blog about flamenco since July 2010 called My Flamenco Diary.

I work as an editor of books on Arabic and Spanish language, art history, history philosophy, oriental manuscripts and music. I have contributed to the German contemporary composer dictionary, KDG – Komponisten der Gegenwart.
