Craig Ogden’s Guitar Weekend in Manchester

The third annual Guitar Weekend at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester starts Friday 16 January until Sunday 18 January 2015. Craig Ogden is joined by steel-string guitarist Tommy Emmanuel, the Katona Twins Guitar Duo and the BBC Philharmonic, conducted by Juanjo Mena, with Craig Ogden as soloist in a performance of two guitar concertos: To the Edge of Dream by Toru Takemitsu and Fantasía para un gentilhombre by Joaquín Rodrigo.

BBC Philharmonic’s programme also includes Dances from Don Quixote by Roberto Gerhard, Ibéria by Claude Debussy, Rapsodie espagnole by Maurice Ravel and Interlude and Dance from La vida breve by Manuel de Falla. Saturday 17 January 2015, 7.30pm. Tickets.

Katona Twins’ programme Mallorca and Asturias by Isaac Albéniz, Chaconne in G Major by Georg Handel, Butterfly by Zoltan Katona, The Brothers Karamazov by Peter Katona, Mad World by Tears for Fears, Introdución and Otono Porteño by Astor Piazzolla, Bohemian Rhapsody by Freddie Mercury and Scarlatti’s Metamorphosis by Katona Twins. Saturday 17 January 2015, 1pm. 5.30pm     Tom Doughty Cheshire-based lap-slide guitarist and singer-songwriter.

SATURDAY 17 January 2015

11.30am   First Timers: Beginners’ Guitar Lesson – Family Session

12.45pm   A classical guitar lesson for absolute beginners led by Callum Dewar. For children (aged 8–16 and family groups).

3pm          Masterclass with Katona Twins

5.15pm     Rising Stars of the Guitar Dave Bainbridge and students from RNCM – Nexus Duo, Yvonne Bloor and Roth Duo.

6.30pm     Preview in the Auditorium Peter Davison talks to Craig Ogden about the guitar weekend.

7pm          Pre-concert performance of Junior RNCM Classical Guitar Quartet

SUNDAY 18 January 2015

10am       Craig’s Big Guitar Jamboree: Participants conducted by Craig Ogden with the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet. 

11am       Toddler Session A special guitar-themed version of our popular sensory play sessions for babies and toddlers.

12 noon   Baby Session A special guitar-themed version of our popular sensory play sessions for babies and toddlers.

2pm         Craig’s Big Guitar Jamboree: Audience conducted by Craig Ogden with Aquarelle Guitar Quartet and Callum Dewar.
