The 19th annual Flamenco Festival London begins at Sadler’s Wells on Tuesday 4 June 2024 with Rocío Molina presenting Al Fondo Riela (It Glimmers in the Depths) – an intimate and powerfully expressive creation by one of the leading flamenco dancers and choreographers of the younger generation, accompanied by two flamenco guitarists: Óscar Lago and Fran Vinuesa.
Al Fondo Riela is the second and central part of a trilogy – that Rocío Molina has created to explore the guitar as an essential element in flamenco; it is an intimate interaction between the flamenco dancer and flamenco guitarists. The first part of the trilogy – Inicio (Uno) – was performed with music by the flamenco guitarist Rafael Riqueni.
The Latin Grammy Award-winning flamenco guitarist Vicente Amigo released a much-anticipated new recording this year called Andenes del Tiempo with eight tracks, whose titles provide the sources of inspiration and the dedications: Turrón y Chocolate; Pasodoble a José Tomás; Con V de Cádiz; Manuela – A Farruquito; Andenes del Tiempo – A Jacinta; El Pocito; Corcovado; Bolero del hermano; and Plaza del Cabildo – A Paquito González. The Pasodoble a José Tomás is dedicated to his friend the bullfighter José Tomás; on his version of Corcovado by the Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vicente Amigo is joined by bass player Marcus Miller.
