HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the composer, guitarist and painter WILLIAM LOVELADY,
who celebrates his 80th birthday today on 21 April 2025!
The BIG BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION will be a concert on Thursday 24 April 2025 at St Pancras New Church, London featuring many of the performers for whom he has composed music over the years: Craig Ogden, Slava Grigoryan, Lenny Grigoryan, Amanda Cook, Manus Noble, Alison Smith, Will Scott, Ollie Clark, Konstantin Tumanov and Perseus Morgan.

William Lovelady has written a number of guitar works for Slava and Leonard Grigoryan (Incantations Nos 4, 5 & 6 and The Sounds of Rain on Slava’s Another Night in London CD; Nartuby River on Slava and Len’s Distance CD), the Concerto for Violin and Guitar and String Orchestra for Craig Ogden and violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen, This Morning in Omagh the Sun Rose Again for solo guitar for the memorial of the Omagh bomb which was premièred by Amanda Cook and Dreams of a Russian Summer written for Tatyana Ryzhkova and Aubade for Xuefei Yang, Dîner Avec Roland and Passing Time were dedicated to Roland Dyens. William Lovelady’s three-movement cantata Psalm 104 was commissioned for the 75th birthday celebrations for His Royal Highness The Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh; originally composed for soprano, choir, string orchestra and flute, an abridged arrangement for unaccompanied voices was performed during the Funeral service of the Duke of Edinburgh on 17 April 2021 in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
