Uruguayan guitarist Olga Pierri (1914–2016)

Olga1IT IS WITH GREAT SADNESS that I write of the death of OLGA PIERRI on Wednesday 28 September 2016. So great was her love of the guitar that she was playing and still teaching up to a few weeks before her death.

On 3 June 2016 she celebrated her 102nd birthday. Olga Pierri regularly performed live on radio both as a soloist and in the ensemble which she formed with her best students, known as the ‘Conjunto Femenina de Guitarras’. See my blog of June 2015, celebrating her 101st birthday.

Here is Olga Pierri playing Pericón by José Pierri Sapere, accompanied by Álvaro Pierri and Daniel Viglietti. They were performing in a homage concert for her father José Pierri Sapere on 15 November 2011 at the Museo ‘El Galpón’ in Pan de Azúcar, Uruguay; she was 97 years old at the time!
