When the Amadeus Guitar Duo – Dale Kavanagh and Thomas Kirchhoff decided to celebrate their 25th anniversary as the Amadeus Guitar Duo, who better to celebrate with than two other of their favourite collaborating guitar duos: Eden-Stell Duo – Mark Eden and Chris Stell and the Gruber & Maklar Guitar Duo – Christian Gruber and Peter Maklar. What a super idea!!!
The concert tour of the three guitar duos – yes, sometimes, performing as a sextet – begins on Saturday 5 November 2016 in Kempen and ends on Sunday 13 November 2016 in Dortmund with 12 concerts in total, including a concert being recorded by Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln.
And the programme looks irresistible:
Guitar Quintet No. 4 in D major by Luigi Boccherini (arranged for guitar sextet)
Das Spiel by Carlo Domeniconi for guitar sextet
Seven Dances from Terspichore by Michael Praetorius (for guitar quartet)
Suite in G minor by Georg Friedrich Händel (for guitar duo)
Suite for Piano (1920) by Francis Poulenc (arranged for guitar duo by Chris Stell)
Impressions (2015) by Dale Kavanagh (solo)
La vida brève and Danza ritual del fuego by Manuel de Falla (duo)
Thema und Variationen, Op. 18 by Johannes Brahms (arranged for sextet by Christian Gruber)
Palladio by Karl Jenkins (arranged for sextet by Gary Spolding).
